History of Oliver Gear - Custom Gear Shop
|
Oliver Gear, Inc.
One of the oldest gear works in the U.S., has roots going back to a
machine shop starting in Buffalo, NY in 1892.
|
|
|
Formally incorporated as a gear works in 1907, Oliver Gear has
since served the industry in a threefold role - as a producer of
quality custom gears for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs),
a supplier of replacement gears, and a reliable source for gear repair work.

|
Over the course of 90+ years Oliver has had three locations,
all in Buffalo, and three owners starting with A.F. Oliver.
In 1939, the current building was built. At the time it was a
state-of-the-art facility.

In 1973
The current owner, Gear Motions, Inc., purchased Oliver in 1973
as part of a strategy to build a diverse group of custom gear shops
organized into one corporate family. Oliver added diversity to the
mix by adding large pitch and large diameter gearing capabilities
up to ten feet in diameter.

Today
The Gear Motions network includes: Nixon Gear in
Syracuse, NY; and Oliver Gear in Buffalo, NY.
Oliver's growth has been steady since joining
Gear Motions. Through a plant renovation in '95,
the edition of gear grinding capabilities that same
year, and an on-going re-structuring of the quality
system incorporating ISO 9002 fundamentals Oliver has
reached new heights, setting a new benchmark for growth
and sales in 1997.
